PM unveil New Cabinet at 3pm

Prime Minister Najib Razak, due to unveil a new cabinet at 3 pm, is widely expected downsize the existing line-up and appoint a slew of new faces, dropping many of the old guard perceived to be aligned to his predecessor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. He is also expected to snub Abdullah’s son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin, although the latter recently managed to win an important post in their Umno party election as chief of the Youth wing. Trade Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who has been keeping quiet since helping Najib and his mentor, Mahathir Mohamad, to oust Abdullah from the top job, is likely to named Deputy Prime Minister.
Najib himself is expected to keep the finance portfolio, while speculation has been rife in business circles as to whether there will be a new Second Finance Minister.
He met the King this morning to obtain consent for the proposed appointments, which will take place officially at the Palace tomorrow.
